Sugar Beet Pulps

Sugar beet pomace is a side product obtained from the sugar beet industry. Due to processing, sugar beet pomace contains a very small amount of sugar. When sugar, water and other substances are removed from sugar beet, its pomace is obtained. Then they dry the waste with special devices and use it for animal feed.

Dried sugar beet pulp is usually produced with or without the addition of molasses. And it has a special smell. Consumption of sugar beet pomace in the diet of animals does not have any negative effect on them, but this pomace alone cannot provide enough nutrients to feed animals and should be used in combination with other food.

Sugar beet pomace is considered a very good probiotic for animals, meaning it can benefit the millions of microbes in the gut. A strong, well-functioning microbiome contributes to the overall health of the body. Despite the other probiotic benefits, this scum should never be the only source of fiber in an animal’s diet, and the amount of protein in this product is moderate.

It is better to put the waste in water to soak it before consumption, because the property of this product is such that it retains moisture and delivers enough water to the animal’s digestive system during consumption. It can also be said that the same soaking of sugar beet pulp makes the pieces of pulp not remain in the throat and stomach of the animal and does not swell there and most importantly does not cause the animal to suffocate.

The amount of fiber in this waste is high, which makes it easier for the animal to digest food and not get constipated, but consuming too much also causes the animal to have diarrhea, because this product has laxative properties. Another property of this waste is the presence of cellulose, cellulose creates stability and stability inside the animal’s rumen.

The color of the scum varies depending on the production method and it depends on whether molasses was used during the production or not. The color of the scum can vary from light to dark brown.

Sugar beet pulp should not be included in the meals of monogastric animals such as poultry, because this product is bulky. The concentration of minerals in it is low and it is also fibrous in nature. Most importantly, the laxative properties of this product are high.
